GNU Free Documentation License What happens if I cancel a service plan during the domain transfer process? Q. I have initiated the transfer process and paid for my new domain service elsewhere, including entering the domain register authorization code from my old provider to the new one. What would happen if I canceled my service contract with my old (current) domain registrar right now? I ask because it's due to renew, and I want to cancel it BEFORE it does, since they won't refund my money. If I cancel it today (for example), what will happen to the domain transfer process? Will I lose the money I've paid the company I'm transferring to? Asked by Qwestion247 - Sat Feb 7 09:27:08 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Q. I do not need web hosting or building or any of the other services that are offered. I already know how to do all of that. I just need to register my domain so that it can be visited. How do I? Please help I do not want to pay for it. Asked by ladylucky - Mon Aug 25 11:40:02 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. You don't - ICANN charges for domain names and, regardless of where you order one, it's ICANN that gives it to you. (You can get it for free, but that means that someone else is paying ICANN for you. Microsoft will give you a free domain name [for 6 months or a year or something like that] - they pay for it. After that, you pay for it. If you can't afford $6/year (that's about what it costs), consider using a free dynamic IP service like No-IP or DynDNS. (I'm assuming that you're hosting the site yourself.)
